2009 Naplan Writing Prompt

The Discovery

Jack ran towards the exit of the dark pine forrest.  A mixed feeling of excitement and anxiety dwelled within him.  He knew what he saw was strange, and that nobody would believe him at first, but he knew he had discovered something that nobody thought was true.
He fought his way through the dense overgrowth of ferns at his feet, and the low branches of pine trees above.  It was as if the forrest knew that he found their secret and was pulling him back with tree-branch arms so he would never tell anyone.  The air was was humid and it was getting harder for him to breathe.

Jack finally made it out of the forrest.  He came out at an old culdesac.  Down the whole street were abandoned buildings, warehouses and junkyards.  The area had basically become a dumping ground for all kinds of waste, but one thing that hadn't been changed was the forrest at the back.  Nobody dumped things their because their was a sign that the council put up saying that there would be fines if anything was dumped their, though the allowed dumping in the rest of the street because nobody used it, as well as it was handy to them.  For that reason, hardly anyone went to the forrest, making it the perfect place to explore.

Jack ran the two blocks to house and burst through the door with so much energy that he just wanted to scream.  He ran to where he thought he'd find his mum in her office, but there was just a note, saying that she had gone out to coffee.  Jack thought this was strange because his mum didn't like coffee but he was too excited to realise.  He ran upstairs to his dad's office and burst through the door only to find a note in the same hand writing, saying that he had gone out to a meeting, but his computer was still there.  Then Jack said "Whats going on?!".
