How do the characters in 'Life is Beautiful' represent an engaging and unique presentation of the Holocaust experience?

The characters in the movie ‘Life is Beautiful’ represent an altered view of the Holocaust experience.  Instead of being told by the dominant side that was in charge, it is told from the side of the Jews with an engaging and realistic point of view.  Thirst first half of the movie is life before the Holocaust and the second half depicts life in the Holocaust.  In both halves, the characters demonstrate engaging and unique techniques that highlight life at the time.

The main character is Guido, and he is a Jew.  He is represented as the most engaging character in the movie, and is unique in the way he is portrayed.  He uses humour to keep himself engaging and to keep his son, Joshua, entertained the whole time he was at the camp.  Using humour in a movie about the holocaust is unique as it was such a black time in history, but it keeps the entire movie interesting and engaging.  The use of Joshua as a little boy depicts pure innocence and in some ways, ignorance of what is going on.  This adds to the idea of the movie being a unique portrayal of the holocaust as it was portrayed as all bad.
